Occupational Disease Surveillance and Policy Transforming Seminar in Beijing

 

Following the Asian OSH Research Institutes (AOSHRI) group meeting in Singapore in March 2015, WSH Institute received an invitation from the National Institute of Occupational Health and Poisons, China to speak at their “Occupational Disease Surveillance and Policy Transforming” seminar in Beijing on 30 Nov – 2 Dec 2015.

Senior Research Analyst, Eunice Yong was in Beijing to share
Singapore’s study on ‘Estimating Mortality from Work-related Diseases’, and presented on the methods and considerations of the use of such estimates.

The seminar was attended by NIOHP’s Director, Dr.Li Tao and various staff from the NIOHP and the Chief Physician, Dr. Zou Jianfang from the Shandong Poison Centre, Institute of Occupational Health and Occupational Medicine. A representative from the International Cooperation department of the Centre of Disease Control & Prevention (CDCP) also attended.

The group had an engaging discussion on the methods and data sources needed and currently available in China and Singapore for the estimation. There was also sharing on how WSH is organised in both countries.

The seminar ended with the agreement to keep each other informed on similar projects undertaken and on future collaborations, as well as China’s participation in the upcoming Singapore World Congress on Safety and Health in 2017.
