WSH Institute Visiting Expert Series: Safety Case – The Way Forward
The Visiting Expert Series: Safety Case – The Way Forward was held at Exploration Theatrette, Level 4 Matrix Biopolis on 27 November 2015
This WSH Institute Visiting Expert Series (VES) was held in collaboration with the Ministry of Manpower (MOM) and Institute of Chemical and Engineering Sciences (ICES) of A*Star. The half day session entitled Safety Case – The Way Forward held on 27 November was attended by around 140 participants from chemical processing, oil and petrochemical industries, pharmaceutical and wafer fabrication plants.
Dr Laurence Cusco, Associate Director and Head (HSL International Unit) of Health & Safety Laboratory (HSL) shared the UK experience in managing Major Hazard Installations. Dr Shaik Salim, Scientist from ICES highlighted the importance of a good understanding of the chemical process for the development of an effective Safety Case. Mdm Jaime Lim, Senior Assistant Director, MHI Branch, OSH Specialists Department, MOM shared on the Journey of Safety Case in Singapore.
Besides the presentations, the audience was given the opportunity to propose key research areas for WSHI and ICES to consider for future development and research. These included sharing of case studies and research on reliability of equipment of process plants in Singapore.
The VES ended with an engaging Q&A session which saw participants asking questions on the implementation of Safety Case and management of legacy plants. Through the session, the audience gained a better understanding of the requirement of Safety Case.
